Are you overwhelmed by life’s challenges, wrestling with anxiety, depression, burnout, immigrant challenges, stress, grief or shame? Are you seeking healing from religious trauma, going through relationship challenges as a couple or family, or academic stress? You don't have to face these struggles alone.
As someone passionate about supporting individuals through life’s ups and downs, I offer a safe, non-judgmental space to explore your challenges together. My journey into counselling includes my own experience with therapy, which has brought healing and personal growth into my life. I am committed to walking alongside others in their unique paths toward healing and self-discovery.
Having lived the immigrant experience myself, I understand the complexities of adjusting to a new culture, the tug-of-war between maintaining your identity and embracing change, and the stigma that can surround seeking help. I also know the resilience and strength it takes to move forward, and I admire the courage to begin that journey.
Hello, my name is Toyosi Awesu. I’m a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and a student therapist at Upstream Counselling. I earned my Master of Divinity at McMaster Divinity College in 2008 and was in pastoral ministry for about 20 years. My counselling journey began through pastoral experiences, where I discovered a deep passion for psychologically and spiritually supporting people.
Using an integrative approach that includes CBT, strength-based therapy, solution-focused therapy, narrative therapy, and emotionally focused therapy, I am here to help you process stress and identity struggles, build compassion, and navigate faith-related challenges.
Together, we can create a sense of safety while exploring your unique story, redefine your sense of self, and build on your strengths to help you thrive in your new context. It’s not just about healing—it’s about growth, relief, and rediscovering hope. Let’s embark on this journey together. You don’t have to do it alone.
