Tasha Riley (MSW, RSW) is a psychotherapist with over five years of experience providing counselling and mental health support to individuals, youth, and families across the Greater Toronto Area. Global Mind Emancipation Health and Social Work Services is a 3B (Black owned, Black focused, Black serving) mental health and wellness practice dedicated to providing assessment-informed and clinically rigorous psychotherapeutic services grounded in trauma-informed, culturally responsive and evidence-based methods.
Tasha grew up in diverse communities that shaped her strong connection to cultural identity and deepened her understanding of how race, systems, and lived experience influence mental health. Tasha completed her undergraduate studies a t the University of Windsor, where she majored in Women & Gender Studies and Social Work. Her academic journey fostered a lasting engagement with Black history, social justice, and community-based initiatives. She went on to earn her Master of Social Work from Ryerson University (Toronto Metropolitan University), where her Major Research Paper focused on Black wealth mobility, exploring the intergenerational transfer of wealth and property and its impact on long-term community wellbeing.
Clinically, Tasha brings a relational, strengths-based, and culturally responsive approach to therapy. Her training includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Narrative Therapy. She supports clients navigating anxiety, self-esteem, identity development, emotional regulation, and the impact of systemic stressors, with a particular passion for working with youth and Black communities.
Tasha’s professional background includes experience working within Children's Aid Society Toronto (CAST), women’s shelters, and with teen pregnancies and/or single mothers, where she supported individuals facing complex family, housing, and systemic challenges. In addition to her psychotherapy practice, she has worked alongside Black individuals involved in the legal justice system, contributing to Enhanced Pre-Sentencing Reports (EPSR) in support of fair and equitable legal outcomes. Currently, Tasha is also involved as a Research Associate on Durham College’s “Bridging the Gap” research project, which explores barriers impacting Black communities’ access to mental health services in the Durham Region. This work reflects her ongoing commitment to bridging clinical practice, research, and advocacy to create meaningful, community.
