I work with clients who struggle to accept themselves and be themselves in relationships; those who are stuck and suffering because they have lived a life of molding themselves to fit the expectations of others and society. I collaborate with you to help you become empowered in who you are: your identities, values, and authenticity, so that you can cultivate relationships which honour these things.
As a Black woman who practices relational and systemic therapy, I strive to embody decolonizing, intersectional, anti-oppressive (i.e., anti-racist, anti-queer/bi/homo/transphobic, anti-ableist, anti-sexist, anti-capitalist, etc), trauma-informed practice to support you in making sense of the contexts of your experiences and their influence on various aspects of your life, including your mental health and relationships. My approach is rooted in the strong values I hold around intentionality, vulnerability, humour, and the therapeutic relationship.
The desire to bridge the gap between current self and preferred self is what everyone (individuals, couples, & families) who seeks therapy has in common. However, the journey is unique. Maybe you are hoping to connect with someone with a similar lived experience. Perhaps you have tried to DIY it in the past, and recognise that having the support of a trained professional might be helpful. Whatever your circumstance is, you are taking the bold steps to be supported along this journey. I am here to walk alongside you through this often overwhelming and seldomly linear process.
I’m a West Indian (Bajan) who migrated to what is now known as Canada on my own when I was 19 years old to pursue my education and career. Throughout my journey to reaching my authentic potential, I have experienced and navigated challenges due to systemic barriers and internalized influences. I deeply value being a critical thinker and facilitating. Additionally, I find it wildly fulfilling to have big, meaningful conversations with others. Being a relational and systemic therapist allows me to honour these values I hold.
I invite you to schedule a free 15 minute consultation call to see if we would be a good fit.
