Jamie Surherland's cultural roots are from St. Vincent and the Grenedines. He is first generation Canadian, who has had the privilege of growing up in the West Indies and Canada. He values the traditions, rules and practices of his rich Black culture that informs our behavioural, emotional and thinking patterns. In addition, Jamie has worked with many families, individuals, couples, children and youth work through many challenging life events. Such events include, the impacts of discrimination and prejudice, mental health concerns, grief, addictions related issues, anxiety/depression, concerns around sex and marital conflict to name a few. Further to, Jamie has spent a time supporting priority neighborhoods in the city of Toronto and other communities throughout the GTA, addressing intimate partner violence, gun violence, strenghtening parenting capacity, addressing early teen pregnancy and increase youth school participation. In addition, Jamie has enjoys working with men around exploring the social expectations of men through understanding power imbalances and other male related issues around the "Mask we wear." With over 23 years experience, Jamie enjoys faciliataing healing and creating a safe space to do so seeing the human heart and the person behind the situation. Jamie holds a CYW Dip., BA Hons in Philosophy, and an MDiv. In Clinical Counselling.
